Chokling Gompa Bir

Chokling Monastery Bir was established by the Third Neten Chokling Rinpoche in the foothills of the Indian Himalayas in the 1960s and is called Pema Ewam Tenchog Gyurmed Ling. The 3rd Neten Chokling Rinpoche was an emanation of the Great Terton Chokgyur Lingpa and the gompa remains dedicated to the Chokling Tersar lineage. The 3rd Neten Chokling Rinpoche with his lamas and monks faced considerable hardship in the early years, but they overcame many obstacles to persist with construction and developing their practices and ritual arts. With the passing of the 3rd Neten Chokling Rinpoche, his son Orgyen Tobgyal Rinpoche took on responsibility for the gompa, and his dedication to the gompa and the supporting lay community has continued to this day.

Visitors come from around the world to Bir for the internationally-ranked paragliding experiences, and many also then find their way to Chokling Gompa’s wondrous manifestation of stupas, statues, wall-paintings and ceremonial practices.
